A Taste of Expression: Nairobi’s Ultimate Culinary Experience

Today, Nairobi hosts the 4th edition of A Taste of Expression, a multisensory cultural event held in that merges fine dining with visual art to explore African identity and heritage. Curated by Chef Kim Kiarie and visual artist Kevo Abbra, it will feature a fusion of contemporary culinary techniques and Kenyan heritage, held at The Village Creative in Lavington.

The evening typically includes a 4–6 course tasting menu. Each course is meticulously paired with a specific artwork and a reflective narrative, creating a “poetic dialogue” between taste and visual art.

Event founder Adhiambo Makena told Capital Lifestyle: “It is designed as an intimate gathering for approximately 35-40 guests, focusing on “silence between courses” and the narrative behind each dish to provoke deeper reflection on identity,” adding that she trusts her intuition when it comes pairing the chef and visual artist of the day.

Guests can expect a glamorous tonight that will blend flavor, art, music, and storytelling. This year’s edition’s official fusion whiskey is Singleton, that perfectly aligns with A Taste of Expression’s vision and aesthetic.

Each course will be paired with a corresponding artwork and a reflective narrative, forming a sequence of taste and texture that mirrors emotion and meaning — one course, one canvas at a time. The result will be harmony between culinary art and the craftsmanship of the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky — a reminder that both art and gastronomy are, at their core, about storytelling, thanks to Kiarie and Abbra.
