NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 23 – Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to travel to the United States after completing his nationwide consultations on the country’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said the decision was partly intended to give him space to make important political decisions without what he described as undue influence from people around him.
“I will rush to Nairobi and spend a day or two. On Wednesday, I will hold my wife’s hand, board a plane and go to America… I will stay there for a while because there are things I am planning that cannot be planned here.
When I am here, there is a lot of influence. Someone tells you this, another tells you that, and someone else pulls you in another direction.”

“I want to make some decisions without undue influence from the people I associate with, so that I can make the right decision,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua has in recent weeks stepped up consultations across the country as political formations begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Tomorrow, I will listen to their views early in the morning. After that, I will listen to the Gen-Zs. The Gen-Zs will come to my place and tell me their views. At 3pm, I will hold a press conference to announce to Kenyans all the views that I have received and the way forward as directed by the people of Kenya.”
“I have been in Wamunyoro for the last 56 days, listening to the views of Kenyans on where Kenya is headed, how they want Kenya to be, how we are planning for the next election and how we will form the sixth government,” he said.

The DCP leader warned of a an active plan by President Ruto political strategists to divide the Mount Kenya vote as the possible route to securing another term.
“He has been told that the only way he can return is by dividing the Mount Kenya vote, because this vote is nearly eight million and it is the vote that decided to remove him. If it is combined with other Kenyans, we will defeat him in the first round.
“So they have been told to try to divide the Mountain so that we can go to a runoff.”

“If we go to a runoff, they will bribe those who lose and bring them to their side. That is why, if we want to win in the first round, the Mountain must be united, and Mount Kenya must cast all its votes together,” Gachagua stressed.
