The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has clarified how employed Kenyans with side hustles should file their annual income tax returns, following widespread confusion.
According to KRA, employees who earn additional income outside their formal employment are required to declare all sources of income in a single tax return, not just their salary.

In a notice published on Tuesday, February 3, KRA said the clarification targeted salaried individuals who, besides their main job, earn income from activities such as freelancing.

Other options include consultancy services, online and digital work, farming and agribusiness ventures, rental earnings, as well as various small side businesses and gigs.
