The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a planned 36-hour shutdown of its Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS), warning that the temporary disruption will affect cargo processing and related customs services nationwide.
In a statement issued Friday, the tax agency said the maintenance window will run from Saturday at 6 pm until Monday at 6 am, temporarily interrupting access to the iCMS platform used by traders, clearing agents and government bodies.
KRA explained that the exercise is intended to strengthen the system’s performance and reliability while improving how quickly transactions are processed.
The Authority said the work is part of ongoing efforts to stabilise and modernise its digital customs infrastructure.

The agency first notified stakeholders and system users about the planned outage, outlining who would be affected during the downtime.
"We wish to inform partner government agencies, importers, exporters, clearing agents, shipping lines, and the general public of scheduled major maintenance for the iCMS," KRA stated.
According to the Authority, the interruption is expected to affect importers, exporters, clearing and forwarding agents, shipping lines, and select government agencies that rely on the system to process declarations and cargo movements.
KRA urged users to complete urgent transactions ahead of the shutdown.

The Authority advised stakeholders to submit pending declarations, settle payments and prioritise the clearance of perishable or time-sensitive consignments before Saturday evening.
While system access will be paused, KRA said customer support channels will remain operational throughout the maintenance period to assist users experiencing difficulties.
Addressing the expected inconvenience, the Authority acknowledged the impact on traders and other users while emphasising that the work is aimed at improving long-term service delivery.

Kenyans experiencing challenges during the maintenance period were encouraged to contact the Authority through its official social media pages, landline and mobile support lines, or email channels.
The Integrated Customs Management System underpins Kenya’s customs operations, supporting cargo clearance, revenue collection and cross-border trade procedures at entry points across the country.
The temporary shutdown is designed to ensure the platform continues to handle these functions more efficiently once services resume.
