Mombasa and Lang’ata Roads Partially Restricted for World Rugby Sevens Division 2

Mombasa and Lang’ata Roads Partially Restricted for World Rugby Sevens Division 2

The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a series of road closures ahead of this weekend’s World Rugby Sevens Division 2 tournament at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi, as fans prepare to flock to the sold-out event.

Nairobi Traffic Base representative Silas Bundi said motorists will face a full closure on Aerodrome Road, while Mombasa Road and Lang’ata Road will be partially restricted.

“From Friday midnight, Aerodrome Road will be totally closed (between Madaraka and Bunyala Road), and Mombasa Road, as well as Lang’ata Road, will be partially closed (between Lusaka and Bunyala roundabout). This is to ensure safe movement of those who will be coming to the stadium,” Bundi said.

Authorities are urging drivers to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time during the tournament.

Bundi added that traffic police will be deployed at key points to guide motorists and ensure smooth flow throughout the weekend.

“Those who are on Mombasa Road and want to access the Central Business District (CBD) are advised to use alternative routes to avoid snarl-ups and inconveniences. We advise all motorists to cooperate with the traffic police and do as directed,” he said.

He also reminded the public that Nyayo Stadium will not provide parking for the tournament, urging visitors to make alternative transport arrangements and secure nearby parking ahead of time.

Full Security Deployment for the Two-Day Tournament

Speaking alongside Bundi, Assistant Inspector General Edward Achola confirmed that the NPS has mobilized full resources to guarantee safety and a smooth experience during the two-day World Rugby Sevens Division 2 tournament.

Achola outlined a detailed security plan combining police officers with private security personnel to provide 24-hour protection throughout the event.

“Private security will be deployed to complement the police officers. We will ensure round-the-clock security at all stages of the event, including during and after the after-party. All units are all ready to go, including the disaster management unit,” said Achola, who also chairs the event’s security subcommittee.

He urged members of the public without tickets to avoid the stadium area to prevent unnecessary confrontations with law enforcement.

Kenya becomes only the second African nation, after South Africa, to host the World Rugby second-tier sevens competition. Tickets sold out two weeks ago, and the 18,000-seat Nyayo Stadium is expected to be at full capacity, promising an electrifying weekend of rugby action.
