Murkomen Vows Action Against Gachagua: “I have kept quiet for far too long”

Murkomen Vows Action Against Gachagua: “I have kept quiet for far too long”

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has promised to take action against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for repeatedly tarnishing his name during discussions on national security.

Speaking on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Murkomen accused Gachagua of unfairly targeting him while demanding security reforms, even though the sector involves cooperation between many different agencies. The Cabinet Secretary claimed that the leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party is only attacking him and President William Ruto based on their ethnicity.

Murkomen vowed to confront Gachagua, whom he accused of inciting the public.

“Whenever he opens his mouth, it is always Ruto and Murkomen, as if there is nobody else in the architecture of security. We are not going to entertain your tribalism.

“Do not profile me because of my community. Don’t bring your silly politics. I have kept quiet for far too long. We will meet with those inciters face-to-face,” Murkomen declared.

The Interior CS stood by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, shielding him from Gachagua’s relentless criticism. He argued that Kanja serves the entire nation, not the personal interests of any single individual.

“Stop undermining the Inspector General of Police; that is not your child. Have some respect,” the CS stated.

The former Deputy President had previously accused President William Ruto and Murkomen of orchestrating an attack on a church in Witima.

Gachagua also claimed his former boss instructed IG Kanja to protect the officers involved in the incident from prosecution. Earlier on Monday, the United Opposition sought an update on the investigation into the church teargassing, but the IG’s office denied them an audience.

The former DP has since pledged to mobilize 100,000 Kenyans to march to IG Kanja’s office today, Friday, February 20, cautioning that the demonstration would bring the nation’s capital to a standstill.
