President William Ruto has intensified efforts to secure Nyanza region’s political backing ahead of next year’s general election, saying the region’s interests are best served within his administration.
Speaking to the locals at Kisumu’s famous Kondele roundabout, the Commander-in-Chief said the pre-election coalition talks between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would easily float the lakeside region to the centre of power.
According to President, the current political engagement is in line with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s vision for a united nation that he has been advocating for years would firmly anchor the lakeside region in government.

The President Ruto also criticized the opposition leaders for indulging in politics for the sake of it by hurling insults without going the extra mile to present examples of how they would improve the economy of the country. He insisted that while they are wasting time with their noise, his administration is busy delivering to the people.
Initially, the President was at Uzima University in Kisumu for their fifth graduation ceremony where he again laid emphasis on the key pillars of the Bottom, Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He said that has paved the way for sustainable development in the country.
Among the achievements of his government is the reforms in the Ministry of Health, the Affordable Housing Programme, and the setting up of a new national savings scheme.

President indicated that the redesigned health system together with the housing plan are clear signs that the government is committed to inclusive growth and better livelihoods especially for the ordinary people.
After the academic ceremony, President Ruto also officiated the launch of Phase Two of the Kanyakwar Affordable Housing Project.
He reiterated the governments resolve to re-engineer the housing sector in Kenya through the provision of affordable housing which he indicated is not only a social intervention but also a big employment creation avenue.

President Ruto also indicated that the election coalition between UDA and ODM which is on the cards will be a guarantee that Nyanza will not be politically left out. The sentiments were in agreement with most of the local leaders who were there and publicly declare their backing of his second term ambition.
In a major development pledge, the President announced that construction works to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Malaba through Kisumu are set to commence in March. He said the project forms part of a broader development budget allocation aimed at accelerating economic growth and connectivity in the Nyanza region.
