President Ruto is planning to establish a political school for his party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). This is a clear indication that the ruling party is changing its strategy from short-term politics to long-term party development.
The UDA party has stated that it will seek ideas for its party organization and leadership training from China’s Communist Party, which has had a party training school for over 100 years.
The UDA party has sent a delegation to China, led by Secretary General Hassan Omar, to seek ideas for a party school. The party officials are in China for a benchmarking session to see how China’s Communist Party trains its party members, interacts with the community at the grassroots level, and enforces discipline in its party.

The UDA party delegation was received in China’s city of Hangzhou in Eastern China by Lu Qingmin, who is the deputy principal of the Zhejiang Provincial Party School. According to UDA officials, this is an important step in building UDA into a more organized party.
The UDA party delegation is composed of Senator Danson Mungatana, Narok Woman Rep Cecilia Ngetit, Senior Adviser Prof. Edward Kisiangani, UDA Executive Director Nicodemus Bore, and party Secretary General Hassan Omar.

The party officials have stated that the party has already planned to establish a party school. According to them, their main goal is to have leaders who understand governance, party discipline, and service to the people, not just those who can win an election.
President Ruto’s party plans to put in place structures that will outlast them and prepare future generations to lead in the country. According to sources from the party, the school will be training in leadership skills, organization, values, and accountability.
The visit to Zhejiang Provincial Party School is also expected to help UDA put in place a training system by learning from successful political parties around the world and adapting them to Kenya’s democracy. UDA has changed since it was formed. It was initially formed in 2012 under the name Party of Action by Hillary Yegon.
